Chiron in the Houses

Chiron, a comet that orbits the Sun, reveals our own power to process our trauma and suffering so that we can in turn, heal others. According to astrology, Chiron is known as “the wounded healer.”

Chiron’s placement in your natal chart will reveal where your core wounds lie: What are your insecurities? Where do you struggle to feel whole and adequate? And how can you overcome these obstacles?

Astrologically, the wound of Chiron is not one we overcome, but rather a pain that we learn to live with.

Chiron in the 1st House 

Chiron in the 1st House shows that your unhealed wound is to your basic sense of self, identity, and self-worth. The wound may manifest in the physical body in the form of disability or disease, or through problems with self-image.

Other possibilities with Chiron in the 1st House include: Trouble initiating actions or projects, rushing into doing things, or hesitating due to doubt and insecurity. Chiron in the 1st House could also form aggression or suppressed rage in your childhood home life, pleasing others in order to survive, making yourself ill in order to avoid making decisions or taking action, feeling ugly or deformed, being ashamed or embarrassed by your body, and feeling awkward or uncoordinated.

Chiron in the 2nd House shows that your unhealed wound is to your body and sense of security. It may manifest through issues of emotional and material security, safety, values, and well-being.

Other possibilities with Chiron in the 2nd House include: Feeling insubstantial and lacking in solidity, being possessive and materialistic with people and possessions, or avoidance of possessions through not wanting to be tied down. Chiron in the 2nd House can also be reflected by problems with money or finding enough resources, your body seen as unreliable or wounded, difficulty finding the right value system, having trouble giving form to your creative potential and endeavors, and a tendency to take things too literally and get bogged down with practical problems.

Chiron in the 3rd House also manifests as learning difficulties or problems with your education. A Tendency toward being rational at the expense of the intuitive, or retreating from the mind completely into feelings and intuition.

Chiron in the 4th House shows that your unhealed wound is to your instincts and family roots. It may manifest through your home environment, parents, local community, and/or environment.

Chiron in the 6th House shows that your unhealed wound is to your health and attitude to service. It may manifest through areas of work, health, and service to the community.

Other possibilities with Chiron in the 6th House include: A tendency to control your body through rigid diets and exercise, a need to organize the chaos of life into strict patterns, emotional issues mirrored in the body through psychosomatic symptoms, an obsession with detail and perfectionism leading to a crisis in the expression of skills. With Chiron in the 6th House domestic life and daily routines can become chaotic and confusing, you can be overly critical of yourself and others, have difficulty forming equal partnerships with others, and a tendency to approach others as a teacher or as a servant.

Chiron in the 8th House 

Chiron in the 8th House shows that your unhealed wound is to your power and sexuality. It may manifest in the areas of finances, mortality, and hidden matters.

Other possibilities with Chiron in the 8th House include: an encounter with death early in life, perhaps a birth trauma or life-threatening illness, a fascination with death, and your own potential destructiveness. With Chiron in the 8th House personal growth is experienced as a life or death struggle, you have difficulty achieving financial self-sufficiency, and can be controlling and protective to hide your vulnerability in relationships. Power struggles in relationships are experienced as all-consuming and passionate, relationships trigger primitive emotions of rage, jealousy, and fear. Chiron in the 9th House shows that your unhealed wound is to your belief system and meaning. It may manifest through the areas of travel, religion, philosophy, and education.

Other possibilities with Chiron in the 9th House include: A feeling of being wounded by the belief system you grew up with, having a desire to find a spiritual path that makes sense of your life and gives you a greater purpose, an interest in travel and other cultures motivated by the need to find meaning. Chiron in the 11th House shows that your unhealed wound is to your sense of individuality and group participation. It may manifest through the areas of society, community, hopes, and long-term ambitions.

Other possibilities with Chiron in the 12th House include: A strong need for the experience of unity, ecstasy, and loss of identity, feeling overwhelmed by chaos and struggle in dealing with the practical reality of life, having a vivid imagination, but struggling to make your dreams real, having weak boundaries and a tendency to absorb identity from others, or feeling guilty about becoming an individual and being separate from others. Chiron in the 12th House may also give you a feeling of profound existential grief and loss, sacrificing your own health and well-being to help others.
